If you want a different Medicare Part D plan for 2027, the plan must receive your enrollment request by December 7, 2026. Your new coverage begins January 1, 2027.

When can you switch Part D plans?

The 2026 Medicare Open Enrollment Period runs from October 15 through December 7. During this period, people with Original Medicare can join, drop, or switch Medicare drug plans.

What should you do before December 7?

  1. 1.Submit your enrollment request online, through the plan, or by calling Medicare at 1-800-633-4227. A mailed form must reach the plan before the enrollment period ends.
  2. 2.Keep the enrollment confirmation and check that the new coverage begins January 1, 2027.

Can you switch after December 7?

You may qualify for a Special Enrollment Period after certain events, including moving, losing other drug coverage, getting Medicaid, or getting Extra Help. The deadline and available changes depend on the event.

Call Medicare at 1-800-633-4227 for help with enrollment rules. You can also contact your State Health Insurance Assistance Program for free counseling about plan choices, coverage, costs, and enrollment.
